Arrowhead Lodge, Brewerton, NY | Megan + Stephen are Married!

Megan and Stephen’s laid-back and fun wedding day began a few miles away from the ceremony and reception site, Arrowhead Lodge, at a couple of hotels. They currently live in Seattle, but grew up and met in CNY. It was important to them to return to the area to get married surrounded by family and friends (we said you’d be seeing them again soon!). However, this did mean leaving their beloved fur-baby, Calvin, back in Seattle, in safe hands, which was a very hard decision. The couple came up with a sweet alternative to make sure Calvin wasn’t forgotten by having life size cardboard cutouts of him made! But we’re getting ahead of ourselves!

Megan, her mom, and her ladies got ready altogether. The bridesmaids were super attentive and sweet while helping Megan into her gown. Meanwhile, Stephen and the groomsmen were schooled on mens formal wear, including shirt-stays and suspenders, in the hotel a parking lot away from the ladies. The couple exchanged gifts to be opened before their first look. We try our best to help make a moment out of a pre-ceremony gift exchange, setting aside some time and finding a quiet space to allow the couple to individually contemplate their soon-to-be spouse, the gift, and the enormity of the day!

Once the love letters were read and the gifts were open, everyone headed to Oneida Shores so Megan and Stephen could have a first look moment. Stephen said it best when he was describing what a first look is to one of his groomsmen, “hopefully it will help settle some nerves!” The wedding party came with, but stayed back during the first look. Once they shared their private photo moment together, they called the wedding party over for some group photos (things may have gotten a little silly!) It was clear they were surrounded by their favorite peoples, and we had a lot of fun sharing ideas to create the images that best exemplified Megan and Stephen’s wedding day.

With all the formal photographs of the wedding party complete, we headed over to the Arrowhead for the ceremony. The couple hired Mary Homer of Fairy Tale Weddings and Events to help execute their laid-back picnic wedding day vibe. She did a lovely job with the decor, taking flowers from Plenty of Posies and creating killer bouquets that added the best pops of color to the outdoor ceremony and indoor reception. The hill in the back of the grounds provided a perfect spot for a lovely arbor and focal point. The bridal party stood high above the witnesses, allowing for a unique vantage point, while Megan and Stephen exchanged vows and said I Do!

Once it was official, the newly weds headed off for some family formals (and a dreamy couples shot with some canned air!) while the guests passed around the bug spray, grabbed a cocktail and some tasty smoked wings (amongst cheese and crudités) from Limp Lizard. Megan and Stephen provided yard games set up all over the property. They had personalized wedding day corn hole, giant Jenga, and Can Jam! Every bit of it was used and everyone seemed to have a lot of fun. It was very important to them that their day be focused on fun over formalities, so after sharing an adorable choreographed first dance, they danced with their parents and then insisted guests go mingle, have fun and eat whenever they wanted (Limp Lizard immediately set up the food in back so guests could graze after the shared dances). While guests dug into the BBQ they discovered Megan and one of her gal pal’s had personalized the BBQ bibs with some pretty cheeky sayings that surprised the wearers as they opened it up to tie around their neck.

As everyone partied, Jenn did her best to make sure Calvin got to see every nook and cranny of the wedding reception. She took him to play games, smell the bouquets, check out the decorated tables and even into the photo booth! Meanwhile, Sarah and Wesley were taking care of the couple’s VIP list by gathering Stephen’s policemen friends. They all made handguns, and it was epic; however, nothing was more epic that night than when Megan asked to get a jumping shot with her new husband. They got so high in the air and look so happy!

Here are some highlights from Megan and Stephen’s best day ever:

Congratulations and best wishes, Mr. & Mrs. Foote!
