Traditions at the Glen, Johnson City, NY | Heather + Matt are Married!

Team SHP’s final wedding of the year was Heather and Matt’s sweet nuptials held at Traditions at the Glen. The golf club and hotel sits up high, overlooking the cascading hills that define New York’s landscape, and the autumn colors were on full display!

Each room in the resort is unique, some even named after the notable people who’ve stayed there in the past. Matt’s parents stayed in the Eisenhower room, named after our 34th president! Heather’s room was lovely, with a four-poster bed, a fireplace in the bathroom (!!) and a balcony that overlooked their ceremony site and that epic view. While she got some help into her dress from her Maid of Honor and mom, Matt was on the other side of the hotel with his guys (big & lil – Matt was also responsible for getting their son, Matt Jr., all spiffed up for the day). Heather’s dad and Matt’s dad eventually joined too! The guys rocked some music as they made quick work of getting into their suits from Binghamton’s Sall-Stearns.

Heather’s room was quieter, peaceful, the temperate fall air filling the room as her mom buttoned the last of what seemed like a million real buttons on Heather’s dess. With one last look in the mirror, it was time for her to see her love for the first time that day.

Heather and Matt chose to do a first look. We really respect this choice and try very hard to make sure the moment is special. For this first look, Jenn placed Matt near some trees on the venue’s grounds and directed him to look off at the epic view (with no peeking!) while he waited for further instructions. Heather was adventurous and took the long way around to make sure none of the guests would see her before the ceremony. Matt was able to hold out and not peek until the very perfect moment, directed by Sarah.

After they shared their first look, the couple posed for Sarah to get some formals before going into hiding so the ceremony could start. A bagpiper started off the ceremony processional! The ceremony took place on the front lawn of the hotel with that epic view directly behind the couple. It was a stunning site to take in! Gracie, the flower girl, threw extra petals in the air just as Heather and Matt shared their first kiss as husband and wife – it was magical timing.

Cocktail hour was held in the tavern where guests were treated to an assortment of cheese and crackers plus hand-passed appetizers. Heather and Matt posed with family for formal portraits and then with their wedding party. They were able to enjoy some of the cocktail hour too since guests could not stay inside on such a lovely day and spilled out into the backyard to enjoy the view and fresh air.

Everyone was then asked to move to the ballroom where they passed a table with table-cards and the gift table, including an adorable, personalized guest book. Each table had a lovely fresh floral centerpiece with a lantern in the middle. Gold scripted numbers on wood blocks organized the tables for the guests. At each setting, the couple thanked their guests with handmade chocolates to take home.

Once Heather and Matt were introduced, Matt took a moment to thank everyone for coming and exclaimed “now, I’m going to dance with my wife!” After their first dance, they were toasted by the maid of honor and best man. Once the blessing was said, everyone settled in for a delicious plated dinner.

The couple’s cake table had a cupcake tower and a sweet 3-tiered cake decorated with fresh flowers. Once dinner was finished, the couple shared in the cake cutting ceremony. They were sweet and polite as they fed each other the first piece. Everyone was then invited to enjoy cupcakes – vanilla, pumpkin, or Guinness chocolate – as the couple then shared dances with their parents. They chose to dance altogether to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” which was very sweet.

The dance floor was then officially open! When guests weren’t getting down on the dance floor, they were enjoying the awesome photo booth Heather and Matt had hired. It was a giant mirror! Guests could write a message by drawing right on the glass and even customize their messages with emojis! SHP even got in on the fun at the end of the night!

We trust you’ll enjoy these highlights from Heather and Matt’s best day ever!

Congratulations and best wishes, Mr. & Mrs. Ousterout!
