A Rustic Outdoor Wedding at Pratts Falls

Kelly is SHP second shooter Jenn’s oldest friend, and (as we mentioned in their e-sesh post) her own life’s path is primarily responsible for Jenn and Sarah meeting! Kelly met Sarah at a festival. They bonded over all the mini adventures festival life brings about and became instant friends. After that weekend, Kelly told Jenn about this awesome person she just had to meet, and an epic sleepover was planned! That’s the very abbreviated version of our friendship story because today we’re sharing Kelly and Oscar’s big day!! Their early June wedding was a special day for many reasons, but we found the way it put the definition of friendship into live action the most special. The thread of friendship and the power it has in our lives is hard to ignore in Kelly and Oscar’s sweet love story.

Kelly knew she wanted Sarah and Jenn at her wedding as guests, but she also loves the photographic eye of SHP, therefore opted to hire Sarah’s Associate Team, headed up by Wesley, to document the joyous day! She is a very organized person. A successful director of a program that serves children, she is no stranger to planning, organizing and executing big ideas. So she decided she was going to take on her wedding day as the planner, organizer and DIY lady boss (with help from her friends, of course!). For months leading up to the big day, Jenn and Kelly would get together about once a week to talk and do All Things Wedding. During this time, Jenn got to know Oscar more (he cooked for her almost every time she was there!) and to hear about what Kelly’s friends and family were planning to do to help their big day sail smoothly.  All the while, unbeknownst to Kelly, during the final meeting for planning photography, Sarah had an awesome idea to surprise Kelly and Oscar with an arbor for their ceremony and got down to contacting her handy, creative friends to make it happen! The magic of friendship was in the works on so many levels.

The day before the wedding, the careful planning came together. Kelly and Oscar’s friends and family started to flock to their home with their assigned missions at hand. Some stopped by to pack up their cars with decorations and bar items, some stopped by to cook a delicious meal for the out of towners, and some stopped by just to see what they could do to help or make sure Kelly had a fresh drink! We’re sure Kelly and Oscar ended that night calm and incredibly grateful.

The next morning, Kelly began to get ready for the big day with her sisters and Jenn (her sister from another mister) by her side. After Jenn finally succeeded in kicking Oscar out of the house, Kelly bumped the 90s music and sipped a mimosa while Rachel Renzi of Break the Chain Beauty did her hair and makeup. When Kelly’s phone would ring (as is expected having planned your own wedding from start to finish) Jenn would answer and do her best to put out any fires! It was clear all the friends at the venue were doing their best to execute the wedding day plans in unison. It’s important to note that these friends of theirs didn’t necessarily know each other either!

Thanks to dear friend Tiffany, Kelly arrived at to Camp Brockway at Pratt’s Falls State Park just in time for her to prepare for her first look with Oscar. Wesley and second shooter Mary Grace orchestrated an intimate first look by the archery range. Just as Kelly was about to head over to see her man, he calls her to say he is running late (the only thing she did not want to happen that day).  Just as he’s telling her this and she’s about to have a freak-out, Jenn receives a call from Wesley. Trying to be helpful (read: going into work mode) she starts to inform him that the first look would be behind schedule because Oscar is running behind only to be interrupted by laughter. Wesley told Jenn he was looking right at Oscar, on the phone with Kelly, getting her real good one last time before she becomes his wife!

While Kelly and Oscar enjoyed their first look together (that dress! those suspenders!) and posed for some portraits, Sarah, her husband, and friends, Chris & Mike (you guys will recognize them!) arrived at the venue early to set up the epic arbor they had collaborated on. Sarah purchased beautiful greenery and baby’s breath from Whistlestop Florist to decorate the natural wood arbor, and just as they were all taking in the beautiful results of their efforts, one of Kelly’s work friends offered bright pink and white peonies she had brought from her garden to help decorate the space. The peonies were the perfect last touch and took the whole project to another level (and the thread of friendship sews another stitch)!!

Guests gathered under the sunny blue sky at Camp Brockway for the afternoon ceremony. Kelly and Oscar partook in a planting ceremony in which they repotted a plant, mixing soil taken from the yard of each of their childhood homes. They exchanged sweet, personal vows and were wed by a mutual friend, Ilan. Once sealing their vows with a kiss and receding down the aisle as husband and wife, an unplanned receiving line formed as all in attendance seemed eager to congratulate the couple.  Guests were invited by Master of Ceremonies, Cindy Ormond, of Ormond Entertainment, to a cocktail hour serving signature margaritas and bocce, the first of many games to be played, set up in the back. Oscar loves games. He’s making a career out of playing them as part of team building with his business, We Play Adventures!
When they were invited into the reception space, they were given their second game to play! The table cards were clothespins and next to the display were the instructions for The Clothespin Game (basically, try to pin the clothespin on others without getting caught and also to try to catch anyone trying to pin a clothespin on you!).

When guests were seated, they found personalized taco holders (a sign of an awesome, SHP approved, dinner to come). Kelly and Oscar came together on this project, learning how to etch metal with electricity, so their guests could have a unique memento from their big day. The formal part of the reception started off with Kelly and Oscar’s first introduction as husband and wife which led directly into their first dance. Parent dances followed, and while Kelly danced with her dad, Oscar took the opportunity to fulfill one of Kelly’s mom’s dreams by asking her to dance too!  The Newlywed game, led by Cindy, in which Kelly and Oscar sat back to back and answered questions about each other followed. They responded by waving a white or black stick in the air. Naturally, some hilarity ensued.

Dinner was provided by Ponchito’s Taqueria, organized and put on by Kelly’s sister Kristy and her significant other Jason. It had all of the taco fixing and proteins imaginable! After enjoying a few tacos, guests were welcomed to the dessert display – another achievement brought by love and friendship. Each item on the dessert table was either made by or provided by a friend or family member! There were 7 Layer Magic Bars, Peanut Peanut Butter cookies, lemon bars, and macarons to name a few! Such a sweet top off to a delicious meal.

After dinner, it was time for one final game, but this time, guests were put to the test on their knowledge of the couple. They also had to rush to ring a bell before answering, which made for some pretty funny photo opportunities. Jenn is thankful she proved herself a good friend in helping with the wedding day because she was dreadful at this game! The littles kicked the adult’s butts, and a lot of fun information was shared about Kelly and Oscar. With the formalities behind them, Kelly and Oscar mingled with guests as some played bocce, got very sneaky with the clothespins and boogied down on the dance floor. When the celebrations had to come to an end, friends once again came together to move the party to the newlywed’s house.

Goodness, we’ve gone on and on, but we just can’t help ourselves! It’s not every day that we get to see both sides of the wedding day and one with so much friendship and love entwined, to boot! We are so happy for our dear friends. Check out the highlights!

Congratulations and best wishes, Mr. & Mrs. Ocamp!
