We’ve got a sweet Cazenovia, NY love story to share with you today! Vika and Chris met at Colgate University in Russian 101 and now live together in New York City. Chris’ parents helped with planning their Central New York wedding and found us during the process! They planned a beautiful day in which almost every location was within walking distance – or a carriage ride away. That’s right; we said carriage ride. We were a little weary of the forecast the morning of Vika and Chris’ big day while watching the weather radar like hawks. Since Chris’ dad had called to tell us he had rented a horse-drawn carriage as an after ceremony surprise for the couple, we had a little extra than usual invested in the hopes that it wouldn’t rain!
Sarah started the day bouncing between the church and Matthew’s Salon & Spa where Vika and her ladies were getting their hair and makeup done. She was able to do this because she planned it out with Vika in one of our pre-wedding meetings. Vika created a bridal detail bag so all the things she wanted to be photographed would be found in one place. Meanwhile, Jenn met up with Chris in a suite at The Brewster Inn where he was hanging with his guys. They were almost all dressed by the time she arrived, which meant they were impressively ahead of schedule. Being ahead of schedule means more photos!! So Jenn, Chris, and the fellas ventured around Brewster’s lovely grounds for some portraits.
After the salon, Vika and the ladies made their way to the church library to get into their gowns. Vika was so excited to get into her dress because she loved it so much that she apologized to Sarah as Sarah walked into the library and found her already in it! Hey – it’s your day, girl! This allowed for a mini bridal portrait session in the library while the girls scattered to nearby bathrooms to hop into their dresses! Win-win! While waiting for the church pews to fill in with guests, Vika gave her three bridesmaids each a special ring to wear that had previously belonged to significant women in Vika’s family. We thought this was such a unique, special touch!
At the entrance of the church, the couple provided a basket of vintage hankies for guests to take to their seats – another touch we thought was adorable! Chris and Vika did not see each other before their ceremony at First Presbyterian Church (which boasts the fact that they have one of the largest, oldest organs in NY). They exchanged vows in front of family and friends, sealed them with a kiss, and then proceeded outside to thank everyone for coming. Once everyone went through the receiving line, they were encouraged to stick around for a photo-op bubble exit! All the while, the horse, and carriage waited on the street out front. At first, the couple thought it was a part of the farmer’s market going on across the way, but their faces lit up when they realized it was for them!! They climbed aboard and took an intimate ride to the reception, the sun shining, with no rain in sight (phew!).
The Brewster Inn is a beautiful venue that’s location on Cazenovia Lake provides all the beauty needed for a soiree. They kept the decor simple and focused guests efforts on enjoying the grounds and the day. The centerpieces were nesting dolls – which we think were a nod to Vika’s Russian heritage (some family flew in from Moscow!). Tables were unassigned, and things were classy but casual. Guests could stay inside at the air-conditioned bar or venture outdoors for the lakeside view and a lovely summer breeze. Maria DeSantis Band and Orchestra entertained as guests enjoyed an impressive display of cheese and hand-passed hors-d’oeuvres. The band was set up under the covered patio, allowing guests to sprawl out at provided tables in the sun and shade. We heard from Chris’ dad that there were a lot of musicians invited, so it was essential to get quality musical entertainment. We always love a live band that can keep the guests on their feet!
After sharing some special dances, the party got started and only briefly stopped for the cake cutting ceremony (mmmm hummingbird and salted caramel cake from Halfmoon Bakery!!!) and a toss of the bouquet. The rain never came, and everyone celebrated Chris and Vika’s sweet union by getting out on the dance floor! We greatly enjoyed celebrating along with them. The entire group was a joy to get to know. Here are some highlights from their garden party best day ever!
Congratulations and best wishes, Mr. Dixon & Mrs. Kouznetsov-Dixon!!
